let us celebrate
March 8th is International Women's Day. I will wear this pin to the theater as I try to catch up with the time change today. Nice to sleep in this morning before fixing the clocks.

my kind of time
Oh, hooray, I can stay up until a "decent" hour and sleep in until 6am. I know that about half the population does not agree with me when I celebrate Daylight Saving Time today, but too bad.

better already
This is my kind of time change. I already slept in to a "decent" hour (6am) and I will stay up tonight until 9:30 or so. Of course the Oscars are tonight and for a change I have seen many of the movies. Plus no more heavy rains and the new floor is in Emma's Room and all in all, life is very, very good this lovely Sunday morning.

argh ~ enough already

I wrote this in 2011 (still true)
HOLD IT UP (a clock)
hold it up
wave it
let it go
let it fly
let it drag
watch it
ignore it
drop it
abuse it
waste it
stomp on it
grab it
smash it
curse it
shake it
tolerate it
turn it
appreciate it
question it
accept it

did you say Spring?
Hmmmm, no, Spring Forward into more grey skies and rain, I'm sorry to report. But now I can stay up until a "decent" hour and not get up at 5am, or so we hope.

back, back, back...
Here we go. Tonight we remember to set our clocks back one hour. Some of us do this reluctantly, some of us look forward to this return to original time. I prefer Daylight Savings time. I do appreciate all the electronic devices taking care of most of the work now, however.

my kind of time change
Almost all clocks have been moved ahead this morning. Of course it's easier with so many digiatal devices that do this for us. And I can stay up later with the big kids.

the clock, the memories
This was my daily writing exercise:
THE CLOCK SHOP
I’ve been to a couple of clock shops in the past few months, trying to get my
father’s clock fixed. Daddy had a bad heart and was forced to sit for hours
in his chair by the fireplace. I don’t know if I inherited the clock or maybe I
just stole it when he died. He was an uneducated man who read all the
time and knew more than most Harvard professors, I bet. This beautiful
clock was right there with him.
Are all clock shops messy? One would think they would be clean and
precise and tidy. That is not my experience. In any event, I picked up the
clock yesterday and Mr. Smith and I had a long talk about people and
clocks. I am not the only one who is attached to a very old clock.
Some clock makers specialize. One guy will only work on French time
pieces, the place in Noe Valley won’t touch electric clocks and the clock
repair woman prefers to work on time pieces manufactured before 1850.
I wish I had bothered to ask about Daddy’s clock when my parents were
still alive. It took Mr. Smith about two months to fix this and yes, I missed
it a lot. And expensive? Almost $300 for the fix-up. Worth it? You betcha.

a walk before the time (argh) change
Terri and I met early (5pm) for dinner at Paprika last night. We could both walk home while it was still light, but now the clocks have been turned back and life is all topsy turvy. Delightful chicken paprikash and much needed catch-up conversation. Sunset tonight at 5:04 ~ Annabelle and I hate this.

Spring sprung forward
I LOVE daylight savings time, but of course many people do not. It does take a day or two to get used to the time change. Perhaps what I appreciated most yesterday was that Annabelle did not start bugging me for her dinner at 4:20pm. She had the good grace to wait until 5:20.

Sunday Best
First, sleeping in until 6am is heaven for my inner time clock. I love Daylight
Savings and always have. Let's keep it. Oh, that's right, we voted to do so
and yet, and yet...
International Women's Day ~ I will wear my special pin today as I celebrate
women everywhere. But I especially salute my many women friends who
keep me sane and help me more than they will ever know. Deep gratitude.

cats and clocks
Annabelle and I tried to stay up LATE last night, but that did not
work and she was batting stuff off the bedstands and dresser tops
at 4am this morning. Many people like this time change, but I am
NOT one of them. I heard on the radio that all of China has the
same time ~ no zones or daylight saving changes. I think they are
smarter than we are.

just a reminder
asleep until 9pm or so. Daylight Savings Time is MY time, my inner
clock works so much better starting tomorrow.

| Worthy of Mother's silver |
walk included a stop-off at Dynamo where there was a short line. Since
we know these probably aren't too good for our health, I only bought two
and because they are $3 each, that was enough of a treat for us. They are
cake donuts and I actually prefer the Krispy Kreme® kind, but not a
crumb remained, you'll be happy to hear.
The setting back of the clocks screwed up my inner timer, as usual. I
would prefer Daylight Savings Time all year round.

| some books in our living room ~ who has time to read? |
This book-panelled room is moving
at a great speed throughout the universe
(and this is the kind of statement
my panelled reviewers loathe).
I am not on any drug, even alcohol.
I am not hallucinating. (I suspect I am incapable of it.)
Everything is exactly as it is.
And this panelled room is moving
at a great speed throughout the universe.

clarification
used to NOT working 40 hours (plus) a week. It's a big change for me
and for Husbando too, of course.
Now I work 12 to 15, sometimes 20 hours a week. See? I said it was a
change. Someone on the blog inferred that I was bored. Oh no, not once
have I been bored since last October when I decided to go part-time.
There is always some place to walk, someone to have coffee or lunch
with, some writing that needs to be done or a few household tasks
that call out to me. Plus, living in San Francisco means that there is
more to see and do daily than probably anywhere on earth ~ except
maybe New York, London or Paris.
No, it's just getting used to change. To not getting up and rushing through
breakfast, standing around at a job facing ennui for 8 hours straight. I am
slowly getting used to freedom, I guess that's the thing. I still get up early,
still make daily and weekly lists, but I have hardly any "must do's" to
contend with. Would I go back to full-time work? Oh, God no, never!
Time is a luxury that I never had before and I'm just learning how to
appreciate it. The simple fact that I can walk every single day or take a
bus downtown just for the heck of it, or visit any museum is beyond
belief. And am I writing? Not as much as I hoped to, but more than
I did in the past and that's a huge step in the right direction. Oh, yes,
and I am way, way more content than I have ever been in my life.
And don't forget all the books I get to read!
