food, friends, poetry

Our book club focused on the poet Andrea Gibson last night. So fitting because it is National Poetry Month and we each read one of Andrea's poems out loud and then watched the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light on Apple TV. Of course wonderful food was involved (make your own taco) and we had a spirited discussion about Andrea and their not easy life and death.

next book club = poetry!

A couple of us were recently intrigued with the poet Andrea Gibson who died in 2025. There is a documentary about her (Come See Me in the Good Light) which we will watch after dinner and after a bit of reviewing of some of Andrea's work. I have been enjoying her poetry in this used book I bought, Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns. I will share a poem or two here later. That's a promise.

book club happiness

Suze, Heidi, Shelley and me for a deep and lively discussion of The Correspondent yesterday. The food was acceptable and the camaraderie impressive. Karen was at the protest (yay!) and Laurence is in Jaipur, India, but we four enjoyed the day immensely.

vegetables anyone?

Words you will seldom read here. I COOKED yesterday. The book club is meeting at my home today and I made a huge vegetarian stew/soup all afternoon and then did dishes and sheesh, what a lot of work. Tons of chopping and stirring and I actually remembered how to put the Cuisinart® together. It will all work out and the book (The Correspondent) will ensure a good discussion. Food is secondary, right?

book club in Marin

We met at Shelly's beautiful home in San Anselmo. Our book? Let the Northern Lights Erase your Name and we all had a lot to say about this unusual novel. Some good, some not so. When we got home we were all invited to Heidi's for Rob's fabulous paella. So a very social day for this blogger. The cat known as Annabelle was not pleased with my long day away and today already she clings.

I need a week of rain

My LindaKindle4 is packed full of wonderful books to read. I thought that when I retired I would spend all day/every day reading, but that is not the case. Last week I did catch up with my New Yorkers and am almost to October. Yay! The 4th book pictured here by Vindela Vida is for our next book club, so I need to get moving on that one. I'm a little disappointed with The Hallmarked Man (#3) to tell the truth. Too much to read? Ah, such a problem, right?

for the September book club

I just added Theft to my LindaKindle4 and hope to start reading it this afternoon. As you can almost see, Abdulrazak Gurnah won the Nobel Prize in Literature for this novel and I am looking forward to discovering a new (to me) author. Stay tuned...

an empty chair

Our friend Lee died yesterday. She was 95 and had a wonderful life. We thought she would make it to book club yesterday when we finally discussed James, but no such luck. I will memorialize Lee at a later date, but suffice it to say that we were all so fortunate to know her. The irony of Lee passing on book club day is not lost on any of us. We had our lunch and a subdued meeting at Heidi's.

I will be back next Monday. I hardly ever take a blog break but I do not want to take MsBook Air to Chicago and I will snap lots of photos and have a few stories to tell about the wedding, the sights, the heat and assorted family members. Bon voyage. 😎
