we have much to learn

I have not been keeping up with baseball nor do I have any tickets for any of the games. I like to go early in the season while hope is still fresh...and the kids are still in school. So I will now start reading and memorizing names and numbers.

I'm 0-3 in 2025

Back to the Jewel with Amy yesterday. I have attended three games and all have been great for the opposing teams. Argh. Still, the front row View Box seats were terrific and the weather wasn't quite as bad as it looks and well, you know, it's baseball. Also, Tony's pizza is delicious.

G-men win ~ one l-o-n-g game

It was a gorgeous day for our Home Opener and the Giants finally won in 11 or 12? innings. I watched on tv and I took a good walk and came home and the game was still on. What a battle. So nice to see a sold out crowd and that "new" ballpark (The Jewel) is now 25 years old. How is this even possible? And now the Warriors are on a winning streak and how can I possibly leave town next week? But I will...

he was the GOAT

RIP to the Say Hey Kid who died yesterday at the age of 93. The baseball world and our city mourns and within minutes fans were bringing flowers to his statue at the Jewel. I soaked up all the tributes on TV last night ~ Willie Mays, what a superb human being. One of his sayings:

PRACTICE LIKE A PRO

PLAY LIKE A KID

watching last night's game today

Well, just the highlights, but what fun. Our Giants are on some kind of unexpected rally winning streak and last night's game with the Mets was so great after the come-back from behind four run homer and then that dramatic out in the bottom of the ninth. So maybe I'll just watch that video one more time. A nice way to start the day. Try it.

say hey kid's birthday

Willie Mays was watching the Giants lose (again) on his 93rd birthday, May 6th. He received greetings from all over the world and many, many people inside and out of baseball love Willie who joined the Giants in 1958 and still comes to games to inspire our players.

the Jewel in 2024

Despite the grey day and our Loss to the NY Mets, it was just so wonderful being back at the ball park yesterday. I had a lovely walk down the Embarcadero next to the Bay after my BART ride and then Amy and I enjoyed very good seats down front, very near 3rd base. And the hot dog tasted extra good after all this time. So yes, we will go again and soon, I hope.

well, how about this?

Nine wins in a row. Late inning drama and tons of unexpected fun for Giants' fans. No one expected this team to be so damn good. A scrappy combination of never-say-die new and old players and 2023 is turning into a VERY good baseball year.

Emma is in town!

How wonderful to see our friend again. Emma lives in Portland now and she is here for a few days to go to concerts and see her buddies in SF. She treated Heidi and me to GREAT seats at the Jewel last night and it was a terrific game and the Giants won. Our team looks very good. I like the new rules and behind us there you can see that the palm trees are all dressed up for Pride Month and even more: they were giving away Logan Webb bobbleheads. Hot dogs and garlic fries and baseball and friends. Life is very good.

who's on first?

I hopped on the #12 Folsom yesterday to meet Amy for the first game of the season. It was cold and we didn't know any of the Giants and we lost big time. Call this fun? Well, yes, we had a great time with hot dogs, ice cream and chatter. Plus, the Warriors won last night so here we go again. (Almost forgot, an official selfie in the middle up there.)

it's not all about the score

Ginger, her sister Amy and I had a fine time at the Jewel yesterday. The Giants had a bad time. You can see that the weather was perfect, even a bit warm for San Francisco. We had a healthy lunch of garlic fries, hot dogs and Cracker Jack's for dessert.

nerves of noodle

The Dubs won last night and now back to Boston to see if they can sew it up there. If not, back to SF for (yikes) a Game 7. And our Giants swept the blue scum sucking Dodgers over the weekend and then beat Kansas City last night. The stars are aligned, or something like that. Win, win, win.

Alyssa makes the national news

For the first time in a Major League Baseball regular season game, a woman coached on the field. Alyssa Nakken has worked long and hard for our Giants and here she was Tuesday night, making history when she was assigned to first base. She received a nice ovation and here a rival Padre contratulates her. Yes!

another piece makes life better

Opening Day ~ a full house and I didn't mind watching on TV with all those memories of past days at the Yard. Warm weather. Of course before the end of the game I was cursing our beloved Giants and the errors that almost caused us to lose. But we didn't, and we won in overtime ~ so SF Giants. Cubs game was canceled due to snow so daughter-in-law and I texted a bit. She lives in Illinois and loves California.

thud

Okay, we lost. A great, tight game and now all of October opens up for me and I don't have to work around the baseball schedule. Damn, this one will hurt for a little while, however.

the mall ~ over and out

Much as I dislike the suburbs, I loathe malls even more. But yesterday I hauled ass on BART to go to Sears at Tanforan in San Bruno. Big mistake. Sears and half the other stores and restaurants are gone and my big treat was a turkey sandwich from Subway. It was a semi-holiday for Indigenous People and Columbus, so what I noticed was all the fathers there in the food court with their kids. I could not wait to get back on BART and return to my city. We won last night's ballgame by one point. I can't take this...

dinner and baseball

It's been forever since I entertained and of course I planned this way before we knew about the playoffs, but that's ok because we hopped up between courses to check the score and then when the guests left I watched and listened to all the wonder of our win #1while I did the dishes. Hooray!

it all starts tomorrow

This will be such a nerve-wracking week coming up. I had to order all sorts of strange TV stations for the next month so I can see every pitch. Has City Hall turned orange? Coit Tower? I will check tonight...

so today you can ask

Annabelle doesn't like the part where we have to stand up in the 9th inning, but other than that we both had a delightful day in front of the TV as our Giants clinched the National League West. Fun stuff...

don't ask

My new tee shirt ~ with many thanks to the Blogmaid. We lost (grrrrrrrr) yesterday so I'm already dressed for today's battle. So much for the concept that baseball is a slow and relaxing sport.
