product recommendation

I ordered these new wrist braces yesterday morning (from Amazon, of course) and they arrived during TV time last night. Carpal in both wrists ~ I have been wearing night "gloves" forever. But these are the best ever with a cushion in the palm and not too much velcro to snag on everything. It's the little victories...

we swim, we talk, I fall asleep

Alas, I didn't really appreciate this play last night, but it was kind of The
Great Plotnik to invite me to take Barb's place. Four characters, two of
whom talked too much, in my opinion. But what did I know? I was busy
catching up on my zzzzzzzz's. Sorry Doug.

my little sleep aid

LISTENING TO THE RADIO (the prompt)

I call it Insomnia Radio and I perfected it these past few years. I used to
listen to the little transistor under my two thin feather pillows, but now
I have the earplug which I occasionally forget to take out when I hop
up in the middle of the night to go for a pee. Ooooops and loud clatter
disturbs the husband, so sorry.

I've learned not to listen to real talk radio anymore, it pisses me off
too much. Oh, those right wing nutcases wriggle into my ear and I'm
wide awake and feeling very angry in a very short amount of time.

So now it's KNBR, sports and more sports. Of course I prefer the soothing
voices of our Giants baseball announcers, but even then if I knew we had
lost the game, I couldn't listen to the midnight rerun. Too distressing.
Currently it's mostly about football and soon basketball. I don't give a
damn about either of those sports, so the radio serves its purpose.

Since we are living in 2013, I do have my stash of Ambien, but I have
such an addictive nature that I'm afraid I'd get hooked. I save it for special
occasions when life punches me in the nose or when I go to my writers
group and drink a full cup of coffee while we laugh and cry and read
each others' work.

the innocents sleep

I love this photo of RR and two of her girl friends ~ thanks, Blogmaid.

For reasons I will never fully understand, I have won the Insomnia
Battle for the past week and sheeeeeesh, what a difference it makes.
I know that no one dies from lack of sleep, but everything is better
and almost makes sense when I do snooze. There were a few illegal
and loud fireworks last night, and I always worry about fire this
time of year, but still I managed to log in about 7 solid hours again.

Out to the Legion of Honor today, a new exhibit opens in 4 days
and I'll write about it as soon as I see it for myself. I prefer the
empty, before-customers galleries. Am I spoiled?

more from Ms. Gordon

I'll check out her other books, thanks Fevered Brain. I like
her views on the semicolon:
...your writing does not clamor for semicolons. Most of the time
commas and periods will take care of linking and separating.
Semicolons are for separating only:
Not only were we naked, crazed, and starving (and far from our
warm little homes); we were without any good books as well.

Yeah, I'm off today. Docent tour with the blogmaid, then lunch
and perhaps a nap. But why, when I slept for 8 hours last night?
Imagine. Me. Ms. Insomniac. If that doesn't justify my drop from
the glorious heights of retail management, what will?

a sweet little xmas movie

Well, finally we watched Tropic Thunder last night. Fun stuff
and a lot of acting talent in this film that makes fun of Hollywood.

I've been trying to learn to sleep in. After 8 years of waking
up at 4:15am (3:15 on the bad nights), my goal is to still
be in bed until 5:30am or so. It's going to take some time. It
does help if I go to bed a little later, but that isn't always so
easy to do. How wonderful on a Monday, however, not to worry
about closing the store at midnight tonight. Ick.

Today I'm off and I will try to put a little red and green around
the house because (eeeeeeeek) it's almost xmas!
