some good news (finally)

After our severe draught conditions we see the lakes of California full and healthy. Believe me, it's no fun lugging buckets of water from the shower down three flights of stairs to the garden. Here is one of today's more positive headlines:

On the heels of one of California's wettest winters on record, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday announced that he will roll back some of the state's most severe drought restrictions and dramatically increase water supplies for agencies serving 27 million people.

been here, done this

Ah yes, the great water shortage. Even Bill, who loved all forms of creature comfort, was eager to save water and so I'm back with the bucket in the shower and plastic bottles to take out to the garden. On my last water bill I was down 9 gallons a day and I patted myself on the back. We are a wasteful society.

yes, we have no tomatoes

We aren't growing any this year because they use soooooo much water.
Come August and September we will really miss them, but I'm sure
that next year will be better. When we did the drought back in the 70's
it was all new and horrible and I was sure that we'd have to live with
hardly any water forever. So we will probably endure some floods in
October and on into 2015. Nature, she is a mother and we do not treat
our earth very kindly. Oh, please do not hose down your sidewalk or
giant SUV in front of me - I can be combustible during a drought.
