cats, coffee and baseball

The top photo is of a very young kitten found by a neighbor (long story, only interesting to cat lovers) and my next door neighbor Cristina (seen here cuddling my girl, Annabelle) jumped in to save the day. Check out these $8 lattes that Terri and I sipped at Hedge, a relatively new spot that is getting lots of publicity. A bit too "I'm in the tech world and super cool" for the likes of me, but it was good to catch-up with Terri and prepare for the baseball game last night. Opening Day. Argh. Giants lost to the Yankees. At least the rest of the world saw our beautiful city and fine weather.

our Giant hero

I was happy to learn that Bruce Bochy is returning to the SF giants in an advisory role. He helped us get  to all those (3) World Series and he has such a nice, gruff sense of humor. He belongs here.

playoffs ~ game 5

Well, the Seattle Mariners FINALLY won in the bottom of the 15th last night as the Blogmaid and I texted to/fro. A very exciting game. There is really nothing quite as intense as October baseball and I love that those crazy fans stood on their feet the entire time. Tomorrow the Mariners play the Blue Jays and that should be great fun too.

bad ball game, good day

The Giants lost 13-0 yesterday, if you can possibly imagine. The sun was out and the Jewel was packed and my ticket was a freebie. I had a fine time, despite the game.

a wonderful rare finish

Patrick Bailey's walk-off-inside-the-park home run last night was very special and I have been watching it this morning and I will see it again on the big screen today as I am going to the game. We beat the Phillies two games in a row and I'm looking forward to some fun in the fog.

a Giant bit of news

Hmmmmm. I do not know Rafael Devers (can I call him Raffy now?) but today he is a Giant in a big old blowout trade. He is a powerhouse with a bit of an attitude problem, or so they say. But maybe we learned how to handle superstars after our Barry Bonds years. I am waiting to hear from our own expert, Mr. Notthat Lucas, on this explosive baseball trade.

the Jewel sparkled

A lovely day by the Bay yesterday, but a poor game for Giants fans. Amy and I enjoyed our Tony's pizza and chatted before and during the game. Despite the loss we are already discussing our next baseball game  and hope for sunshine again. The cool breezes helped everyone, especially the Kansas City Royals.

off to the Jewel

The NEW ballpark is now 25 years old and how did that happen? I remember the first Opening Day there like it was yesterday. Well, better, but that's another story. I'm still learning names of the 2025 Giants and just learned that we have the best bullpen in the major leagues. Well, that's a relief. I'm meeting Amy at the Willie Mays statue at Oracle Park at noon but I will stop first at Safeway for some peanuts and cracker jacks, sunscreen and lots of water.

bargain matinee

Back to the Alamo yesterday with Amy doing all the heavy lifting again. Eephus is a sweet little baseball movie about a small town ritual that will be ending for this group of mostly out-of-shape, mostly middle age men. Quiet humor and nostalgia. Sweet, but not for everyone unless you love baseball. Oh, EEphus is the name of a very slow pitch, or so it seems.

making life better

So far, so good with our Giants. I love having these games to look forward to and last night we beat the Astros after winning the series in Cincinnati. I'm starting to learn the names of the new players and listening to our old favorite announcers is music to my ears.

finally ~ it's Opening Day!

Our Giants had the best record in Spring Training ~ imagine that! It is going to be a good season, or so most experts are predicting. Today we are in Cincinnati, how lovely to have baseball on radio and tv now instead of listening to Trump horrors, lies and cover-ups. Play ball...

big baseball day

Four games today. I love the intensity of the Playoffs and I am currently rooting for: Detroit, the Yankees, the Mets and the San Diego Padres. But first I will campaign for Mayor Breed and then scurry home to my TV. Notthat and Dodger Doug will send their informative baseball emails and I appreciate those for sure.

a sports dominated day

It was a fine, fun day with the Giants winning in the 9th inning at our Home Opener ~ lots of memories and pomp to give us renewed hope for the season ahead. Then, along with the rest of the world, I watched Women's College Basketball last night and rooted for Iowa, not that I'd ever want to live there or even drive through that state. Wow, they play hard and fast!

bunting to burn

The Giants were down in San Diego yesterday and their rally flags worked ~ the Padres won. I did watch a little and even though I don't know a lot of the new players, I like our new skipper and Logan pitched a good game. There is always optimism for everyone on Opening Day.

orange October

Yay, a selfie from nephew Tanner and his friend at the Orioles' game yesterday. Everyone loves  the excitement of playoff baseball, I'm just sorry the O's lost this first game of five. But we never lose hope and today is a new day. (Oh, Tanner is on the left in the photo.)

East Coast orange and black

I'm disappointed in our Giants (once again) and am now a Baltimore Orioles fan for the playoffs. Sister Jane and nephew Tanner love the O's and so my heart is with them and this feisty team. Years ago Husbando and I toured Baltimore and admired the pretty new (at that time) stadium and so I say GO O's!

Cracker Jills and bad baseball

But gorgeous weather! I met Amy at the Jewel and we watched the Giants play poorly and chatted and questioned the fashion choices of other fans. All in all, a very fine day ~ except for the actual game.

finally, the beginning (again)

What a long, cold winter we have had. But yes, today at 10am the Giants play the Yankees back there on the East Coast.  New players, new rules and lots to see and learn. I believe every single team is  playing today and that is a lot of baseball.

coffee by the sea

Ginger and I walked down at Pathetica yesterday and then had our mini brunch at a picnic table. It was gorgeous and just a bit cold, but bracing. Our Giants lost to the horrid Dodgers last night and so we have to endure Game 5 tomorrow night. Do or die. Or die.

who needs this now?

I feel sorry for the fans. Life is just too stressful currently to go through the playoffs and the World Series. But of course I watch and root for no one except Dusty Baker, without his smart ass Astros team. Well, maybe eventually I will give my valuable support to the Rays. Maybe. The Dodgers are the BEST team in baseball, except during the playoffs. Explain that, if you will.
