we lit the night!

It was such a wonderful evening and LLS raised $405,000. I want
to thank everyone, especially the friends who joined me last night:
Neti, Blogmaid, Linda, Pam, Kris, Ginger, Amy, Helen and Hank.
You'll see them in this bunch of photos. We lucked out with the
weather and it was magical indeed with the lights, balloons,
music, bad burgers and mostly, all that Love. Many of the photos
are courtesy of the Blogmaid and Linda with more thanks...

Some special memories ~ the Remembrance Room, the kids who
wore Survivor tee shirts, trying to find the VIP champagne reception
room on Floor 12 of the St. Francis, Kris carrying the banner
during the walk, the police on motorcycles who blocked traffic,
the many volunteers who cheered us on the walk and ALL the people
who gave so much of their time and money to make the event
so successful. Very, very special indeed. Gratitude envelops me
this morning...

tonight's the night

Our Team is going to consist of between five and ten people. The
cell phones will be busy with "where are you?" and "the traffic is
a mess," but it will all work out, I keep telling myself that.

We meet at 5:15 pm for a special VIP party on the 12th Floor of the
St. Francis. We are VIP because we actually raised $5,000 plus.
Just imagine that (I still can't). About 6 weeks ago I sincerely wished
that I hadn't committed to this, but now I'm so pleased that we have
done so well. It's such a tribute to friendship and hope, isn't it?

Pam and Kris arrive from SoCal this morning and I will meet them
and we'll have lunch and plan our time. The walk tonight begins at
7pm and is under two miles. Tomorrow I will choke you with photos.
Thank you, thank you to everyone!

one week from today!

Never in a million years did I expect our team to show up for the second

straight week in a row amongst the top fundraisers in the Light the

Night Walk happening a week from tonight. The wise Blogmaid

suggested that I up our Team Goal from $2,000 to $4,000 and she was,

as always, right on the money (so to speak). We are going to do it!

I can tell you now that I worried a lot about doing this thing, but the

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are dedicated and helpful, and I

should have known that we have the most generous friends in the world.

Congratulations to this week's Top Fundraisers!
Company Teams
SF Giants-Love for Landers - $50,491
Salesforce.com - $15,988
Marsh Risk & Insurance - $10,136
Friends & Family Teams
Team Jericho - $7,243
Team Robert - $3,885
Missing Selhorst - $3,615 (we now have $3,900)
Top Individuals
Chase Roberts - $1,300
Steve Egelman - $1,155
Seerat Bhatia- $925

Thank you again and again.

in case you didn't notice...

Rabbit. It's October 1st already. Big doings in Golden Gate Park
with the free (key word) Strictly Hardly Bluegrass Festival.
Parking is never a slice of pecan pie there anyway, so today
I'm leaving extra early and tomorrow Husbando will drop me off.
Picasso is ending on the 10th (see calendar) and folks are
rushing to catch a glimpse before he heads back to Paris.
Congestion reigns.

I'm thrilled to announce that we have $1990 in the Leukemia
Night the Light fund. My original goal was $2,000 and we
upped it to $4,000. People are so generous. That's up there
under Oct. 20th, a Thursday night for the 7pm walk.

Check out that calendar. Oct. 9th is my final full-time day.
We just got our schedule for the after-Picasso and I have 11
hours for the week ending Oct. 18th. My To Do List keeps
growing because I keep moving tasks and projects to the
After Oct. 10th side of the list ledger. Call me joyful.

October will be a VERY good month!

way more than expected

The Blogmaid and I like this photo of Michael, RR and me in her
backyard. She is using it on her fundraising web page and yesterday
she gave me (as usual) a lot of help designing my two web pages.

May I use the word overwhelmed again? I did not expect so much so
quickly from our friends and we currently have $1,475 that the
Leukemia Society would not have without us. Big picture. Thanks
everyone, we walk in 21 days. Join us!

Feel free to add to the pot! Here is the new MISSING SELHORST
team page.

gratitude

This is the first fresh bouquet from our new garden ~ all native
plants that don't require any work, other than some weeding and
watering, of course. It was my only request of our gardener, some
flowers for our everyday lives. Wish granted.

Yesterday I sent out an email for the Leukemia Walk that we'll
be doing on October 20th. I was (as usual) not pleased with my
writing and felt (as usual) that I could have done a much better job.
So I went out walking and stewing. On my way home I checked
my iPhone and the screen was filled with notifications from the
Leukemia Society. I am raising money for a great cause ~ me!
Really, I welled up. I know, shocking for me, isn't it? Thank
you, thank you...

And some friends will be walking with us and that means so
much to me. We will Light the Night indeed.

did they call him Buck?

No, this is Michael Selhorst (aka Seahorse) ~ RIP, dear friend

It's less than a month until I do the Light the Night walk for
Leukemia and I've been working on my fund raising email
and getting nervous because I've never done this kind of
thing before. As so often happens, I ran across this quote from
R. Buckminster Fuller:

There is no such thing as a failed experiment, only
experiments with unexpected outcomes.

do something new...

Yesterday I signed up to be the Team Captain (ahem) of the
October 20th fund-raising benefit Light the Night. Our group
will be called Missing Selhorst and because I have never
done anything like this, I don't quite know what to expect.
I do know that two of Michael's SoCal friends will be here
and maybe even his dear cousin Anna from the East Coast. I
donate when friends move out of their daily lives to raise
money for cancer, Aids, Parkinsons, etc. and I hope the
karma factor is at work here too. In the meantime, feel
free to register as a walker or give your hard earned money
to a very worthy cause.
