now a movie (to avoid)

I just started this book and I understand that it is waaaaaay better
than the movie. The Reluctant Fundamentalist tells the story of
a Pakistani man who is educated at Princeton and moves to NYC
for a great job. I like it a lot. By the way, do not bother with that
Eye for an Eye book I recently read ~ ridiculous.

East London in the 50's

We saw one of two of these episodes last season on BBC America, but now the
Flix® has the DVDs available. Call the Midwife is the story of women finding
themselves and their place in history after World War II. I can do without the
actual birthin' of the babies, but I love all the other elements and watching the
four midwives biking about London doing good is just great fun. This is really
a heartwarming series, but you might need the Kleenex® box by your side.

I had to trash/delete The Secret Keeper from my LindaKindle® ~ very boring
and the Blogmaid agrees. With all the great books available, I can't spend time
reading garbage.

more oil than blood

I've neglected movies and their subsequent reviews here for a few
days. This was another good surprise because I thought the film
would be too violent for me, but it was not. Of course Daniel Day-
Lewis was superb, but we also appreciated the film itself and it's
one of those that floats around in the mind for a long time afterwards.

pretty city, dumb movie

I actually bought this silly movie (with my big box employee
discount) for several reasons:
1) the first half of the film takes place in Florence, Italy and
even includes the Old Pharmacy
2) we both read a book entitled The Monster of Florence and
it refers often to Ridley Scott and this movie
3) I have more money than brains
The book hasn't been published yet, but I'm sending them both
to Ginger in Santa Barbara and then they'll be available for the
Great Italian Reunion in August.

But the movie is horrid, except for the scenes of Florence. I
have problems with women FBI agents who find themselves
in difficult situations outdoors, still with their 6" high heels on.
Or am I just too picky?
