in-home movie day
Amy, Heidi, Annabelle and I had a lovely afternoon around my TV yesterday. Two Flix® movies, popcorn and Kleenex®. The Marty Short doc was better than expected and I enjoyed watching Remarkably Bright Creatures again. Microwave popcorn was a hit ~ I outdid myself.

a remarkably good movie
Thanks to the Blogmaid for recommending Remarkably Bright Creatures featuring Sally Field, Lewis Pullman and a chatty octopus who is filled with all sorts of wisdom. On the Flix®.

ah, those Brits...
A select team of undercover Customs investigators infiltrate the drug world back in the 1990's. This is based on a true story and these civil servants risk their lives to stop the flow of heroin into the UK. Starring Steve Coogan, Tom Burke and Ami Ameen. Six episodes on the Flix®.

The Los Angeles Lakers (errrrr, Waves)
Thanks to Terri for recommending Running Point starring Kate Hudson as the President of the LA Waves basketball team. Fun stuff. She has three brothers to complicate everything, as brothers do. Season 2 just started and I am enjoying Season 1 currently. On the Flix® ~ check it out.

The Penguin Lessons
Doug and Barb recommended this sweet movie based on a true story and so worth a Kleenex or two. The Penguin Lessons takes place in 1976 Argentina and stars Steve Coogan and Jonathan Pryce. It is on Netflix and I give it a thumbs up. So there.

even I laughed out loud (twice)
I can count on ONE hand the number of times I have belly laughed during tv, movies or plays. I am just not built that way and I envy those who are. And then here comes BIG MISTAKES on Netflix. When we need it most, some glorious and truly funny people. I'm trying not to binge as I don't want this to end. Starring Dan Levy and Taylor Ortega (above) ~ siblings in a (no surprise) dysfunctional family. Fun!

a cult favorite
Whatever that means. I stumbled across Search Party on Netflix last night and yes, I like it so far. NYC young people looking for a college acquaintance who has gone missing. Rosie Perez appeared for a few seasons in the first episode and that was a treat. I really like Alia Shawkat who plays Dory, the main character who is hell bent on finding her friend.

Korean drama series
For some reason I really like Korean dramas and many are available these days. Pro Bono features a judge who is forced to become a Pro Bono lawyer and of course there is laughter, tears and lots of legal suspense. Oh, and "unlikely" romance ~ yes! On the Flix® and aka Kdrama.

almost hooked
I watched one episode of Seven Dials last night and found it just pretty good. Helena Bonham Carter (not pictured) has never looked better, in my opinion. I will try again tonight. Beats watching ICE goons.

North of North
Thanks to Terri for recommending North of North to binge watch during these dreary January days and nights. Just what I need currently. A young Inuk mother hopes to reinvent herself in the small arctic town where everyone knows everyone's business. From the Canadian Broadcasting Company on Netflix.

and not one xmas carol
I read about Relay on Instagram (I think) and since I am a big fan of Riz Ahmed I watched it on the Flix® last night. He does not disappoint in this cat-and-mouse thriller. Riz helps whistleblowers fight big old nasty corporations. Thumbs up.

fame and sorrow
I watched Jay Kelly on the Flix® last night. Certainly not the best movie ever made, but I am glad that I saw it and it surely beats all those xmas specials for sure.

better than the book
Well, of course, who can NOT appreciate Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan? Last night I watched half of this new Flix® movie and even though I am not a fan of sprightly old people stories (we are not cute), I am ok with The Thursday Murder Club and you might be too. Or not.

another K-drama
I needed to escape to Seoul for Beyond the Bar, a compelling legal drama about a young rookie woman lawyer and her cold (but not really) mentor boss. The clients and cases are unusually interesting in my opinion, so you might want to check it out on the Flix®.

Fisk ~ for fun
I'm enjoying this comedy-drama. Fisk wears this horrid brown suit every day to a quirky law firm that specializes in wills and probates. This is filmed in Melbourne and I finished Season One last night. Two more to go ~ yay. Give it a try on the Flix®.

we can surely use a laugh
Chef Sarah recommended Leanne and yes, it is just what I need at this particular time. Southern women doing the best they can and having some fun too. Netflix.

I'm a Jodie Foster fan
Jen with 2 dogs recommended this film on Netflix and it is NOT easy to watch, so I just did half last night and I will finish it tonight. But, wow, it is great. Benedict Cumberbach and Shailene Woodley are also in the cast I did cancel AT&T and everything takes a bit more work currently, but I am chugging along and trying to maintain by sunny (hahahahahaha) attitude. The Mauritanian is based on a true story.

in many ways it is Too Much
I've been watching Lena Dunham's new Netflix series Too Much and I'm good for one episode a night. A whole lot of sex, drugs, humor, sorrow, music and fabulous costumes. I can't really recommend it, on the other hand, I can't stop watching all these colorful people. Go figure...

dark humor, great drama
I've been staying up past my well regulated early bedtime in order to watch this most wonderful new series on the Flix®. DEPT. Q works on cold cases in Edinburgh, Scotland. The three detectives are flawed, brilliant and well worth my tv time. Gritty? Oh, yes indeed.

Flix® and moral intrigue
Well, well, well. Here we have a six-part Danish mystery thriller that shows what might lie beneath the perfect world of wealth and privilege in a Copenhagen suburb. Secrets We Keep tells the story of a missing Filipina au pair and yes, this is an intriguing series for sure.
