lots of dogs and people
After our walk in Stern Grove yesterday, Ginger and I sat with our coffee and snack and we had to eat fast as the doggies wanted more than just ear scratches. What a beautiful spot. I love the dog owners who are vaguely apologetic about their beloved pets and eager to tell us their names as they smile down with great tenderness. Yes it was cold ~ invigorating.

highly recommended
Doug and Barb urged me to see The Present, on Netflix. It is a short Oscar nominated Palestinian film about a man on the West Bank who buys his wife an anniversary present. So powerful.

eyes up on Valencia Street
My trash buddy Emma and I picked up debris on the sidewalks and alleys around Valencia Street yesterday. I love this street but once someone tosses a paper plate, everyone seems to think it is a-ok to add to the garbage. But we can make a difference, at least for an hour or so.

the next book club selection
I really like Three Girls from Bronzeville so far. The author is a former columunist for the Chicgo Tribune and this memoir is really about sisterhood and friendship. Very well written.

another piece makes life better
Opening Day ~ a full house and I didn't mind watching on TV with all those memories of past days at the Yard. Warm weather. Of course before the end of the game I was cursing our beloved Giants and the errors that almost caused us to lose. But we didn't, and we won in overtime ~ so SF Giants. Cubs game was canceled due to snow so daughter-in-law and I texted a bit. She lives in Illinois and loves California.

a good day for America
Of course I had to watch the Senate in action yesterday and congratulations to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and her confirmation yesterday.

dinner with rabbits and friends
Ginger's dear friend, Bill, is here from Florida (a state worthy of our teasing) and we celebrated around my rabbit table last night. You can tell that Amy is Ginger's sister and that the four of us were just so damn happy to be together.

more sister talk
After yesterday's dramatic (ahem) blog post, Sister Jane and her son, my nephew Tanner, are planning a trip to San Francisco on Dec. 1st. I am already so excited. The Blogmaid (an essential part of this sisterhood) and I are already making plans. This is all so wonderful. Gratitude!

the truth is on the table
The Blogmaid has been working on figuring out my heritage for a few years. DNA does not lie. I have half sisters and brothers. Jane is the most recent discovery and she welcomed me with open arms and had actually heard about the baby who was put up for adoption before our father married her mother. You can see that this is a long and very interesting story that I am condensing here. Yesterday Jane texted me a photo of her table (bottom) and I sent her mine (top). It's in the genes...

worthy of all honors and awards
Thanks to Luis the computer guy who spent two l-o-n-g hours here yesterday, I was able to watch CODA on Apple TV+ on my old Samsung TV. Such a fabulous movie ~ do not attempt without a box of Kleenex® at your side. So satisfying. Luis also fixed my iPad and iPhone and will return next Saturday for the main event, this MsBookAir from 2015. Sigh.

I so needed this one
My writing partner last week (Karen S.) recommended this wonderful series about three young people who are on the spectrum. Wow. As We See It is so honest/sad/funny. Thumbs up!

north of San Francisco
East of Eden ~ that was the overrated (my opinion) book we discussed yesterday at Il Fornaio up in Corte Madera. That shopping mall (ick) was packed as in the days of yore. Missing Helene who had a cold. We are all starting to travel so our next book club meeting isn't until May 12. Oh, yummy food!

into the fog
I almost forgot to report on Tuesday's adventure with Ginger. Crissy Field is our default location and it had been awhile since we visited there. You can barely see the bridge or the city skyline, but know that the air was clear and our coffee hot. We secured the front row table, as per usual.

like we had a choice
My writing partner this week sounded a little derisive when he asked why we called our 2000 Toyota KEN. I'm pretty sure we hadn't named any of our other cars except maybe the Fiat. Fix It Again Tony. Bill's favorite was the Rover, wonderful when it wasn't in the mechanic's garage. Toyota? Perfection.

a good deed ~ for one hour
Please note that we wore "disco vests" courtesy of Manny and his restaurant and event center ~ our clean-up Sunday headquarters. A good way to start my often busy Sunday ~ so trashy.

Water by the Spoonful
Neti, Pat and I met at the SF Playhouse yesterday and even though this wasn't the best play ever produced, we stayed until the end and it did get better. GREAT acting, the script was a bit confusing, but then I rushed home to watch the Oscars and I saw The Slap. Now I need to see CODA and soon.

Dancing Jen's birthday lunch
Il Casaro Pizzeria is in the top photo and Jen and her birthday pizza in the bottom. Then some photos that I took along the way practicing capture-the-sense-of-wonder theme from Karen S. This city (all cities?) is rich with creative and colorful details. The sunshine helped everything too. A delightful time.

the essence of wonder
The essence of wonder. A big secret indeed. I think it’s the ability to notice, to observe, to stay open. To delight. But maybe it doesn’t come easily to those of us who are depressed or sorrowful. Or awake to the grim reality of the world and our own country.
But it’s worth trying. It’s worth watching a bumblebee and saying the word bumblebee which is a wonder word if there ever was one.
It reminds me of one more thing I did with Wednesday’s yoga class. We sat on our mats, closed our eyes, and played with “bumblebee breath” for a few minutes. Breathe in through your nostrils, pause, then hum as you exhale. Repeat and repeat. Any tone, any length. You are your own hive master. Its very wonderful.
Let me try try try to find some wonder from today to write in this space at the bottom of this page. Lunch out on our patio, with the welcome warmth of sun. There is nothing like spring sunshine when your body remembers the cold winter and when the weather is still chilly. That moment or half hour of warmth on your shoulders and back — that is enough wonder for any March day.
(from my writing partner, Karen S., yesterday. Wonder used to be easier for me, but it is still there.)

dreamer, showman, father
A lovely movie about Richard Williams, determined father of tennis stars Venus and Serena. This was on HBO Max and I enjoyed King Richard thoroughly. We will see during the Oscars on Sunday!
