with three favorites

Kenneth Branagh, Tina Fey and Camille Cottin appear here in A Haunting in Venice based on the Hercule Poirot novel by Agatha Christie. Beautiful photography of Venice along with a haphazard plot featuring lots of ghosts, grizzly murders and such. Yup, more Flix® fun.

ocean spray

The sea was roiling yesterday in Pathetica when Any and I had our walk and lunch at the Chit Chat Cafe. Sorry the window screen is here, but this was our view for the $6.00 hot dogs. A-OK.

Luck be a Lady

 Guys and Dolls
at SF Playhouse is a huge hit and was sold out on Sunday. It's a small stage and yet the talented actors danced and sang and cavorted with great enthusiasm. I highly recommend this fun experience to lighten your holidays this year.

city sidewalks

Here I go again about how much I love my city. We had theatre yesterday and a wonderful musical that I will review tomorrow, or the next day. It was one of those cold, crisp, clear only in SF kind of days and I did some smart shopping and watched the ice skaters in Union Square. This little doggie is wearing pearls and why not? Stores were busy but not TOO crowded. Yay!

Norwegian fun on the Flix®

I like Johanne who is a single 30 something nurse in Norway who always gets stuck at the kids' table and has to work the holiday shifts because married people with children come first. With subtitles, of course, but funny how Fuck! is the same in every language. Home for Christmas has two seasons and lots of laughs and tears. I'm liking Norway in this Netflix special...

in the kitchen with grandma

Thanksgiving. Samantha on the left and Ceci on the right. House all put back together after a full day of work yesterday. Beats going into the Black Friday retail chaos ~ remember those days?

a day full of food and gratitude

Today is clean-up and a lovely after glow. The grand daughters did all the work and we enjoyed fabulous food and great conversation. Harlow the doodle dog joined us and how did my camera miss her? Annabelle was not pleased, but she was the only one. Top photos are the grands (and Zak) bottom photo is new friend Samaria and her mother Maria, friends of Samantha and Luke.

talk about thankful

The tables take up most of the dining and living room so there won't be much space to gather and sparkle before dinner today which will be around 3pm. CC and Zak arrived last night with a huge amount of cooking stuff and they have taken over the back room at Camp Mary Ann's. I'm having a quiet moment now in front of the fire to reflect on all that I am thankful for and yes, it's a lot.

lock her out

There is nothing Annabelle loves more than a freshly laundered tablecloth. We are at odds here because I have two tables to set for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Ceci and Zak will be down from Placerville tonight and she will do all the cooking. Yay! Samantha and Luke will be here too and Thanksgiving California will be great fun with two grand daughters and a few other colorful guests. We have so much to be thankful for. Annabelle is included in that, as you know.

a superb heroine

Emma Corrin becomes Darby, our current favorite detective in A Murder at the End of the World on Hulu. And yes, Clive Owen plays a major role too. I'm hooked...

women, food and books

Oh yes, and the incredible SF view. A lovely evening with Lee, Laurence, Heidi and Suze (from the left in the bottom photo) as we discussed Trust Exercise and everything else imaginable. A hearty soup and salad, bread and dessert. Yum.

art in the neighborhood

Jen with two dogs (bottom photo) and I happened upon an Open Studio yesterday on our walk between rain drops. Some whimsical work and the beautiful barber shop oil in the middle. This all in an art studio space that we never even knew existed. Dogs? Well behaved, phew.

pushing onward with the audio

Trust Exercise is a novel about a performing arts high school and it won the National Book Award in 2019. Great writing by Susan Choi, but VERY difficult to accept and digest on many levels. Controversial. Book Club tomorrow night...get listening!

yesterday and today

Yikes, I neglected to take a photo of Doug, Barb and me out at the Hard Knox on Clement Street. Ox tails, mac and cheese, sausage/beans/rice, po'boy, corn meal muffins, etc. More birthday toasts and catch-up talk ~ lots of left overs. Thank heavens for Pepcid AC before they picked me up. This morning I'm using the RR coffee mug because she returns from college for a nice long holiday break and there is great joy in Pumpkinville (and SF).

a worldwide celebration

With lunch, flowers, balloon, cards and much happiness, Neti, the Blogmaids and I had grilled artichokes and fries and a good old time at Catch on Market Street and managed to avoid all the APEC traffic problems and found pretty good parking thanks to Husbando, as per usual.

my day with gratitude galore

Nancy, beloved step daughter, sent the flowers and neighbor Heidi brought me a cake for breakfast and what more could a woman want? I'm using Bill's coffee mug and feeling positive and happy. Life is good and I have been blessed. xoxoxoxo

hurry, stock up

I love TJ's fresh Cranberry Sauce more than any I have ever tasted. Yesterday I bought three cartons because I read that we could freeze them. I'm expecting ten for Thanksgiving dinner so maybe we will gobble them all up then?

trashing and tea time

Here we have Luca the trash elf (age 4.5) and neighbor Heidi in the top photo. The streets are soooooo much cleaner than they used to be with the hundreds of happy citizens out picking up litter along the ocean and in the neighborhoods. Then you finally meet Lily in the baseball cap who came over for tea yesterday afternoon with Heidi. She wanted her photo taken by the wallpaper. Go figure...

the boy from Buffalo

Yesterday was warm, clear and beautiful and we had dinner outside at the Mission Rock Resort. Stepson Rob is visiting his daughter Samantha and making sure that my home has not turned into Grey Gardens. SF sparkles for ALL the guests currently.

all cleaned up for APEC

The Asian Pacific Economic Conference begins here Tuesday and SF has been thoroughly scrubbed and god knows where they put the homeless. Something like 20,000 visitors including Potus and Xi from China are coming here. Traffic will be messy and security at an all time high. Fox (not News) will find a few messy scenes to point out once again how awful our city is because we lean to the left and actually care about humanity. Buckle up!

letter from Israel

I worked with Joseph Zitt back in my Big Box Borders days. He moved to Israel in 2017 and is a wonderful writer who finds humor in the little things even during the war. Let me know if you want to subscribe to his daily newsletter. All are welcome. From yesterday, a snippet:

Buying locally has always been important here. The country, being quite small, is heavily dependent on importing. Fortunately, shipping by sea seems still to be happening. Some companies have redirected routes from a port close to the fighting to one further away. That port is actually owned by a company from India. Nobody wants to mess with them.

There's a national event every year for shopping locally online. It is theoretically happening yesterday and today. I have gone to the site but, even running it through Google Translate, I can't figure out how it works or even if it's happening at all. It never has worked for me. I must need some sort of secret handshake that locals don't realize that other people don't know.

The supermarket is less crowded than on most Thursdays. People are shopping less, and many stocked up on food at the start of the war. More information keeps coming in about the effect of the war on the economy, due to work absences and hesitancy to buy things.

a long two dog day

Jen's partner had a bad cold so I was the helper yesterday and we left for Santa Rosa at 6:30am with the two dogs. I sat in the back with Charlie (middle photo) and Birdie (top) who was in the passenger seat. Wise & Wonderful is a holistic vet and both dogs had procedures done there and we waited and worried. I forgot to take a photo of the building so you are treated to one of the Wise & Wonderful car. We had a late lunch at In-N-Out and a smooth ride home after a full day of dogs and, of course, worry. But all is well today. Hooray!

some positive news

Once again we have Steve Kornaki with his facts and figures and details about the elections yesterday in the USA. Good news in Kentucky, Virginia and yayyyy Ohio. All is not lost and now I can exhale for a minute or two.

let's be silly

Last week both the grand daughter and friend Nicole were laughing about No Hard Feelings, a movie now on Netflix. We are all fans of Jennifer Lawrence who stars in this ridiculous comedy about an older women preparing a 19 year old boy for college. It feels good to laugh during these stressful times. Thumbs up, get the popcorn.

and the blogger bakes!

A gloomy Sunday and since I had all the ingredients, I made the cranberry/almond cake that Terry recommended from Budget Bytes. The above is a stock photo, but mine looked almost as good. Neighbor Heidi came for tea and fireplace and we did that part political, part gossip thing that included cat talk: Annabelle and Ozzie are the best cats in the neighborhood.

argh ~ enough already

Only the first morning and I am hating the time change today. Up waaaaay too early and it will be dark too soon tonight. I thought we voted to keep Daylight Savings? Grrrrrrrrr.

a quiet Saturday morning

Thanks to the Blogmaid for sending this to me.

dia de los muertos on 24th Street

Neighbor Nicole, grand daughter Samantha and I strolled on the colorful main street of the celebration last night. The bottom photo is a feather headpiece. Amazing. Marigolds, altars, face painting, candles, photos and peaceful crowds in costumes. All the restaurants were packed so Nicole wrestled up some left overs for us and we had a lovely evening indeed.

an EPIC celebration by the Bay

Doug's birthday dinner last night with fabulous steaks at Epic on the Embarcadero. We sat out in the patio overlooking the glories of our city. After the sun went down the lights went on and we even watched a big group of nighttime runners going from the ballpark to Pier 39. Perfect weather, wonderful service and a memorable, magical evening.

not too violent, but scary

Thanks to the Blogmaid I'm engrossed in this riveting drama set in France and England. A little boy (age 5) disappears on the family's vacation. The Missing ~ two seasons. Yay!
